The textile industry is the third-largest consumer of plastic, just behind packaging and construction. A recent report reveals that some fashion brands now use synthetic fibres in 70-80% of their clothing, feeding this cycle of pollution.
Microplastics are now invading our food 🦐
A new study (link in comments) found microplastics in 99% of seafood samples, with the highest levels in shrimp. Over 80% of these plastics came from clothing and textiles—and they’re not just in seafood. Other studies have found them in all tested meat and produce too.
Fast fashion’s plastic addiction isn’t just polluting our oceans—it’s ending up on our plates.
